Daughter needs computer to turn tragedy into triumph
Profile: Josefina sent her application to Reason to Give asking for a computer. While sharing her need she told a somber (and all too common) story of a Humboldt Park family devastated by gang violence. Josefina's 15-year-old son was killed in a gang-related incident. While proud to be part of a thriving Puerto Rican community she prays for change and a better, safer life for all her neighbors.
As she heads off to Northeastern University to study Criminal Justice, Josefina's oldest daughter, Vanessa, is determined to be a part of that change. Vanessa wants to help others stay safe and is determined to be a role model in the community. A computer would be essential to Vanessa's upcoming college career as well as help her younger sister Stephanie with her schoolwork.
