Mother wants a better life for her four children

Profile: Moving to Chicago from Honduras, Urcina dreamed of finding a better life. That dream is still alive, but providing for her family has become a struggle. Urcina's husband was laid off four months ago. In this tough economy Urcina can only find work on night shift, and so she works when she can, even if just for a few hours, so she can afford to buy food for her family.

Urcina's parents passed away when she was young. She never received an education in Honduras, as she had to begin working at age 5.  She hopes to someday attend school and learn to read and write so that she can help her children with their studies.

When Urcina moved to the United States she left behind one brother, who has Down Syndrome. Because he can't work, Urcina would like to be able to send money home to her aunt who cares for him, but she cannot do that when all of her wages go to family provisions.

Graciously thanking all who might help her family, Urcina told Reason to Give that "to give is goodwill and to ask is strength." Urcina is asking for help with winter wear, boots, school supplies and kitchen appliances.
