Single mom cares for disabled child and five others

Profile: Shevon is a single mother of six, three girls and three boys, all under the age of fourteen.  Shevon's mother helps her care for her oldest son, Ivan, who suffers from cerebral palsy.  Her children mean everything to her and Shevon tries her best to raise them in a loving environment where their education is at the forefront. Every day before dinner Shevon helps the kids with their homework and they have silent reading time.

Shevon has lived in Humboldt Park her entire life. She loves the neighborhood for its rich culture and family activities, but also worries about raising her children in a community plagued by violence and gangs. When Shevon came to Reason to Give she asked for anything to help her kids have a better life. She said the best thing about her children is that appreciate even the smallest things and never complain that they don't have what the other kids have.

Shevon and her family are in need of winter wear, shoes, and school supplies. Most importantly, they need a computer because it is essential for the children to be able to complete their homework and Shevon has big dreams for all of her kids. Plus Shevon would like to go back to school herself one day soon.
